Krasnodar trade visit results in potential opportunities.

Russian delegation impressed by British agriculture during trade visit with potential opportunities resulting for UK farming operations.
The trade delegation from Krasnodar region, site of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, attended the Pig & Poulty Fair 2010 at Stoneleigh, and they were very impressed with the show as well as with their visits to local pig, poultry, organic and fruit farms. This visit took place on 11 May – 15 May 2010.
This was the second time that a trade delegation from Krasnodar region has visited the UK. In July 2009 a trade mission from Krasnodar region attended the Royal Agricultural Show in Stoneleigh. In November 2009 as a follow-up to this visit the Krasnodar regional administration signed a Framework cooperation agreement with RASE.
The delegation made a number of local visits to farming operations. These included a visit to the “Oxenbold” pig Farm” near Much Wenlock (Herefordshire) which was hosted by Paul Anderson of JSR Genetics. Also near Worcester, the companies visited Broomfields Farm, a fruit farm growing a wide range of apple varieties including a number of traditional home-grown English varieties such as Cox’s Orange Pippin and Bramley.
One of the most interesting visits was to a commercial Turkey Unit near Hereford operated by Cranberry Foods, where the delegates were met by Mr Clay Burrows, Agricultural Director of Cranberry Foods.
In Gloucestershire delegates went to the farm of Mr Phipp at Hilltops near Bourton-on-the-Water, a family run with 90-100,000 broiler chickens, 250 acres of mixed arable, 250 acres of grass and silage. The programme of this visit finished at the Collings Hanger Farm in Prestwood, organic farm (150 ha) owned by Ms Virginia Deradour, with beef suckler cattle (mixed breeds), various ancient varieties of wheat for milling and turkeys reared for Christmas market.
As a result of this visit the Russian companies expressed interest in importing turkeys, live cattle for breeding and sheep. For more information on breeds required please consult the business opportunity posted on the website.
Later this year, in July, another trade mission from Krasnodar is going to attend the Festival of the Horse 2010 in Newmarket.
